7/18/2022 Academic Affairs Weekly Student Update

Hello Cambridge College Students:

We hope that your classes are going well. If you fall behind or have challenges with your coursework, we encourage you to reach out to your academic advisor or success coach for support. Here are some resources that can help to keep you on track:

Tutoring and Academic Support

Cambridge College has experienced professional tutors available in writing, math, statistics, and for MTEL support. Writing tutors can help you with any project that requires writing in any of your courses. In addition, all students have access to TutorMe 24/7 tutoring support and paper submissions. For information on how to access academic support, click here>>.

Sitters for Scholars

Sitters For Scholars is a first-of-its-kind non-profit organization. They offer free and low-cost evening babysitting services to low-income parents attending college in the Greater Boston area. For more information read their flyer here>>.

This week we are excited to share the following announcements:

How to Research Companies & Industries

Tuesday, July 19, 7:00-8:00 p.m. (ET) via Zoom. Click here to register >>

Developing your skill at researching companies and industries can pay off in numerous ways. It can help you with your coursework, identify prospective employers, prepare for interviews, and research personal investments. CC Librarian Jeff Cronin will begin with a brief presentation about the different types of companies, e.g., publicly held and privately held. He will then discuss a variety of resources on the web and in databases at the Cambridge College Online Library that provide data and analysis for companies and industries. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. If you need any additional information, please contact Jeff Cronin at Jeffrey.Cronin@cambridgecollege.edu

Resumes that Lead to Interviews

Wednesday, July 20, 12:00-1:00 p.m. (ET) via Zoom. Click here to register >>

This workshop will introduce students to current best practices on how to effectively communicate their skills and fit for a job of their interest. This is a workshop you will not want to miss! For more information, contact Irina Galatskaya at irina.galatskaya@cambridgecollege.edu.

Canvas Training Course

If you need Canvas training, consider the self-guided Canvas training course. All students are automatically enrolled in the CST100: Canvas Student Training course. When you log into MyCC, go to the gray area left menu bar (Quick Links), where you will find a link to “Canvas.”  Click on that link for Canvas access. If you haven’t already accepted it, the top of the screen may display a message informing you of your enrollment in the CST100 Canvas Student Training. Click on “Accept,” and you are ready to begin the course starting at the “Home” page. This Canvas course is self-guided, not timed, and contains the same material covered in the live monthly scheduled Zoom sessions.

English Conversation Group

Our English Conversation Group is designed to help English language learners practice conversational skills in a safe and structured environment. English Conversation Groups meet virtually via Zoom every Monday and Thursday (except on federal holidays). There is no charge to attend, but registration is required.

  • Every Monday, 5:00-6:00 p.m. (ET) via Zoom. English Conversation Group with Santia Lindor. If you are interested, please register here>>.
  • Every Thursday, 5:00-6:00 p.m. (ET) via Zoom. English Conversation Group with Charlie DiSilva. If you are interested, please register here>>.
