8/22/2022 Academic Affairs Weekly Student Update     

     

Hello Cambridge College Students,

 

We hope you are enjoying the summer and are starting to get ready for the fall term! As you likely know, classes in the upcoming fall term begin on September 5, 2022. When you register for fall classes, you will notice that courses continue to be offered in many different modalities. Be sure to double-check the listed modalities of your course(s), so you understand where and how they will be taught. If you have not yet registered, be sure to do so soon before classes fill up. AAC&U Membership – Individual Membership for Students

Cambridge College is now a member of the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), and that membership includes all CC students. Please see the attached document highlighting member benefits, and if any of them are of interest to you, use the second attached document, “How to create an AAC&U member account,” to become an individual member. It is easy, there is no cost associated with your personal membership, and it will give you access to lots of opportunities. You will be joining as an individual member under the auspices of the College.

How to Research Companies & Industries

Tuesday, August 23, 7:00-8:00 p.m. (ET) via Zoom. Click here to register >>

Developing your skill at researching companies and industries can pay off in numerous ways. It can help you with your coursework, identify prospective employers, prepare for interviews, and research personal investments. CC Librarian Jeff Cronin will begin with a brief presentation about the different types of companies, e.g., publicly held and privately held. He will then discuss a variety of resources on the web and in databases at the Cambridge College Online Library that provide data and analysis for companies and industries. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Canvas LMS Training – August 2022 

Dr. Michael Marrapodi and Dr. Daniel Ibarrondo will continue to offer training sessions for the Canvas Learning Management System. Please be sure to register for these workshops. The dates and times are listed below:

Canvas Training Course

If you need Canvas training, you can also take the self-guided Canvas training course. All students are automatically enrolled in the CST100: Canvas Student Training course. When you log into MyCC, go to the gray area left menu bar (Quick Links) where you will find a link to “Canvas.”  Click on that link for Canvas access. If you haven’t already accepted it, the top of the screen may display a message informing you of your enrollment in the CST100 Canvas Student Training. Click on “Accept” and you are ready to begin the course starting at the “Home” page. This Canvas course is self-guided, not timed, and contains the same material covered in the live monthly scheduled Zoom sessions.  

 

Ace the Interview Strategies that Result in Offers

This workshop will introduce students to effective strategies that prepare them to be the stand-out candidate before, during and after the job interview. This workshop will cover the following: preparing for a successful interview –physical and remote, research and job description review, types of interviews and interview questions, salary negotiation and post-interview follow up. English Conversation Group 

Our English Conversation Group is designed to help English language learners practice conversational skills in a safe and structured environment. English Conversation Groups meet virtually via Zoom every Monday and Thursday (except federal holidays). There is no charge to attend, but registration is required.
