Description
Clinical assessment and diagnosis involves a practical application of several skill sets and bodies of knowledge. This 10-hour workshop is divided into two parts: Part I: These first five hours will provide a comprehensive overview of the DSM-IV-TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, Text Revision) including how it is organized, controversies, and the proper use of it. Part II: The second five hours will focus on assessment skills, including interviewing strategies for the mental status exam (MSE) and suicide and risk assessment. The MSE provides a format for organizing the objective and subjective information about a client?s presentation and symptoms that can lead to a correct diagnosis. A thorough suicide assessment includes the degree and intent of a client?s suicidality as well as other clinical considerations.
