Welcome. This "Course Tour" segment is intended to help you understand this course and how it will work. There is quite a bit of information here, and I realize it is hard to keep track of all of the details during the first week of class. I encourage you to ask questions about any aspect of the course. Post general course questions in the course Q & A in the Discussion Forum area.
Each instructor will use the features listed below differently. Some may post information on the Main Page. Others will post assignments on the Coursework tab and use the Gradebook to record your progress. Others will include discussion questions in the Discussion Forum area. Others may only include information on the Syllabus tab. Your instructor will let you know what to expect in this course shell. After you complete this information, go to the “Syllabus” tab first.
First, an overview of MyCC...
MyCC is used for all courses at Cambridge College whether they are in seat, hybrid, or online. If you are taking an in seat course, you can go directly to the Syllabus tab. To begin, we bring your attention to the menu bar tabs located on the left of your screen. I’ll explain each below.
Start Here/Course Tour: This provides students with an introduction to the various tabs on the left menu bar and their function.
Course Overview: This tab provides an “Overview” of the course by module/unit segments. It’s a great way to check in and view what the assignments are for any given module/unit. On this page, you can click on the green arrow to move to the next module/unit. No course work is performed in this tab, but there are links to various course elements. It’s sole purpose is to help you stay focused and on schedule for each module/unit.
Syllabus: This section has the syllabus for the course. You should carefully and thoughtfully read the entire syllabus. The syllabus is in essence, the course “contract” for the course and can be subject to change. You will be duly notified if there are any changes to the syllabus.
Coursework: The bulk of the course content is conducted in this section. When you click on “Coursework,” you will find a “Module/Unit” for each week of the course. The course outline in “Coursework” varies from course to course and instructor to instructor. Pay close attention to the due dates for each assignment, if they are posted.
Discussion Forum: In the Discussion Forum tab, you may be asked to post one written response and to respond to two classmates' posts in at least one discussion each week. The length of these posts may vary by class and instructor, but aim to post at least 250 words in your initial response and at least 150 words to each classmate's post.
Gradebook: You can click on this tab to check your course performance and grades as you complete assignments. If your instructor notices that you are not faring well in the course, you may be referred to an academic advisor to assist you.
Course Information: This tab provides brief information on your course and instructor, including the instructor's email.
Attendance: Your instructor may use this tab to keep track of course attendance.
Main Page: This is the first screen of your course. It’s a quick link into Course Info, News Announcements, Handouts, and Bookmarks. Every course and instructor is different and some may use these links and some may not. Make sure your MyCC notifications settings are activated so that you will receive notices in the event your instructor uses these tabs for updates or sharing additional resources.
Classmates: This tab provides you with information about your classmates. This is helpful if you need to connect with each other for group work or classmate assistance.
Library: This tab brings you to the Cambridge College Online Library.
24/7 Support: If you need technical assistance, contact 24/7 Support in this tab.
When you are ready to get started...go to the “Syllabus” tab first and read the Syllabus. Note the instructions your instructor may have posted on the Main Page regarding the use of this course shell. Reach out to your instructor if you have any questions or need help navigating this area.
