9/3/2021 Academic Affairs Weekly Student Update

Greetings Cambridge College Students:

We hope you are enjoying the last week of summer while preparing for the start of classes next week on September 7th! If you have not yet registered for classes, be sure to do so. Also, be sure to note the modality of the classes you have signed up for. All classes listed as “In-Person” will be held on campus and will require you to travel to campus. Other classes are either fully Remote/Connected or they may have an optional In-Person component.

Coming to Campus

If you are planning to come on campus for any of your classes or to access resources or support, be sure to review information about on-campus safety protocols and procedures, including information about how to verify vaccination status using the CastleBranch system, on the College’s Covid-19 response page at https://www.cambridgecollege.edu/covid-19-updates. If you have any questions regarding Covid-19 protocols and procedures when coming to campus, please email COVIDRC@cambridgecollege.edu.

English Conversation Groups

This fall, the Office of Student Affairs will be hosting our English Conversation Groups once again with Charlie DiSilva and Santia Lindor. These groups are a safe place for English learners and international students to practice English listening and speaking skills. Charlie and Santia are currently setting up the fall schedule for these groups and are looking for student feedback.  If you are interested in participating in the English Conversation groups, please complete this brief 5 question survey about your preferences for days and times>>. Thank you so much for your feedback!

Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

A Federal Communications Commission program has provided a temporary discount on monthly broadband bills for qualifying households. Under the new infrastructure bill that was just passed, this benefit will be expanded as the “Affordable Connectivity Program.”  To learn about eligibility and application options, visit www.GetEmergencyBroadband.org.

Would you like to build or enhance your technology skills?

Cambridge College is offering a new program for students who are interested in improving their technology skills. The program is free of charge and allows students to earn credentials that certify their newly acquired skills. There are three parts to the program. First, students complete a technological readiness appraisal. Second, students follow our Computers: One Click at a Time Curriculum, which includes a free textbook and access to our online portal. Third, students take our NorthStar Digital Literacy Assessments and earn digital badges for technology skills. This is a great program for building digital literacy. To learn more about the benefits of the program, click here>>. If you are interested in participating, contact Joseph Hughes at joseph.hughes@cambridgecollege.edu.

Enjoy the last unofficial week of summer and have a great Labor Day weekend. We look forward to seeing you all next week for the start of classes!

Sincerely,

Jerry Ice, Ed.D.

Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
