Description
The 2023-2024 Wade Institute Focus Workshops utilize regional resources to offer
educators experiences that integrate inquiry-based pedagogy, science and engineering
practices, science content, and other core disciplines. The goals of the workshops are to
increase science content knowledge by connecting teachers to experts in the field (scientists,
research laboratories, engineers, etc.); to provide in-depth, standards-driven experiences that
demonstrate the use of phenomena-based teaching.
This Focus Workshop, Hurricane Heroes, will deepen participants’ understanding of how to
utilize grade-level-appropriate science and technology concepts that address the MA STE
Standards in a phenomena-based challenge. Through this workshop, teachers will participate in
elements of STEM challenge curricula designed to support students in using the Science and
Engineering Practices. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate and reflect with
instructors and fellow attendees.
